EXPOSITIONGlider Collection WolfhezeLocation: Camping & Chalet Park "De
Lindenhof", Sunday, September 17th 1944... the skies above the Netherlands are filled with aeroplanes. This day and the following, hundreds of British gliders and thousands of British paratroopers land in the fields around Wolfheze. This event marks the beginning of what we now call 'The Battle of Arnhem'; an operation with one single goal: capturing the Arnhem bridge from the German occupational force. But what exactly
is a glider? How big is it anyway? How many troops and materiel did
it hold? How was it flown? Now, over 65 years onwards, the remark 'lest we forget' still holds its value. This is certainly applicable to this enormous arial operation. GLIDER COLLECTION WOLFHEZE contributes to that remenbrance with a rather unique collection. Landmark: at the Glider Monument at the village's entrance. |
